Structural Engineer EIT

Location: Lehi or Salt Lake City , Utah
Position Overview: As the Structural Design Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical expertise in the design and detailing of horizontal structures, including highway bridges, pedestrian bridges, earth retaining systems, drainage structures, and related transportation infrastructure. You will play a key role in ensuring the structural integrity, safety, and adherence to industry standards on a diverse set of projects across the western United States. Some of our delivered unique and exciting projects over the past 4 years include:
- River Road Bridge Widening (UDOT/St. George City) – this award-winning project included the hydraulic analysis and widening of a three-span bridge over the Virgin River
- 300 North Pedestrian Bridge (UTA/Salt Lake City) – this bridge utilized structural steel abutments and elevator shafts and required permits to cross a busy UPRR and UTA FrontRunner corridor
- Provo Intermodal Center Pedestrian Bridge (UTA/Provo City) – this bridge utilized masonry mechanical rooms and elevator shafts and required permits to cross a busy UPRR and UTA FrontRunner corridor. The structure also required the design of a crash wall to facilitate future UPRR expansion
- SR-92 Pedestrian Bridge (UTA/Lehi City) – this four-span, precast concrete girder pedestrian bridge involved significant coordination with all tiers of government – FTA, UDOT, Utah County, and Lehi City
- 10200 S. Multi-Use Path (UTA/Sandy City) – this project provided the design of a box culvert and various retaining walls to facilitate a roadway extension and canal crossing
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the development of structural designs for highway structures, bridges, earth retaining systems, and drainage structures
- Collaborate with senior engineers and architects to develop project specifications
- Conduct structural analysis using industry-standard software and methodologies to ensure designs meet safety and performance criteria
- Prepare detailed construction drawings, specifications, and reports for submission to clients and regulatory authorities
- Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary project teams, including architects, civil engineers, and contractors, to integrate structural designs into comprehensive project plans
- Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in structural engineering and materials
- Provide technical support during the construction phase, including site visits, inspections, and resolving design-related issues
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineering
- Engineer-in-Training (EIT) or Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in civil engineering with a strong emphasis on highway structures, bridges, earth retaining systems, and drainage structures
Preferred Requirements:
- Masters degree in Civil Engineering with a focus on Structural Engineer
- Working knowledge of the AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications and AASHTO Guide Specifications for LRFD Seismic Bridge Design
- Working knowledge of LPILE software
- Experience with materials including steel, precast concrete, and reinforced concrete
- Exceptional leadership and team management skills
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail
- Proficiency in AutoCAD and/or REVIT is advantageous
